BATTLE STATS
A significant part of life at Finchwood Academy revolves around honing one's Persona and preparing to do battle with the otherworldly Shadows. Fill out the form below to help the mods out and give everyone the details of your character's combat style and their other self!
Responses are screened until the mods approve the character. This must be done, along with the Application before a character will be accepted.
A summary of battle stats (by squad), levels, and additional character abilities can be found HERE.
Responses are screened until the mods approve the character. This must be done, along with the Application before a character will be accepted.
A summary of battle stats (by squad), levels, and additional character abilities can be found HERE.
Character Name: Character's name.
Squad: Select your character's squad. These are pre-assigned for squad leaders.
Squad Position: Select your character's position on the squad. This can be Leader, Second, Member (High/Medium/Low), or Support based on what's available. Leaders and supports are pre-determined and can be found on the Character Roster.
Primary Weapon: Select your character's weapon of choice. Supports may mark this question as N/A.
Combat Style: Outline particular combat skills here, along with their attitude in battle. Are they gung-ho? Do they try to protect their teammates at risk of themselves? Do they try to let others do the heavy lifting? For support characters, this is how they handle their role and how they generally treat their team. Do they worry all the time? Are they quick to point out things, even if they're not a threat? Are they relaxed?
Attribute: Select the attribute that best defines your character's abilities: Strength, Stamina, Speed, or Balance! This will not impact bonuses but it it will impact narrative elements and dungeon navigation.
Persona Name: Please select an available Persona listed under your house.
Persona Appearance: Provide a brief description of your Persona.
Affinity: Select one of the two elements available to your character's house. This is the element that your character will be most proficient in attacking with and defending against. Swords may choose Air or Thunder, Cups may choose Water or Ice, Wands may choose Fire or Lightning, and Coins may choose Earth or Stone.
Weakness: Please select one of the elements not associated with your character's house. This will be the element that does the most damage against your character and their Persona.
Ailment Susceptibility: Select the mental or physical ailment that your character is particularly susceptible to: Poison, Sleep, Mute, Confusion, Enervation, Rage, Fear, Forget, Charm, and Despair. All characters may get all status ailments, but this will be the one most likely to impact the character. Keep in mind that a toned down version of the ailment may, at times, linger with the character for a few days after the initial exposure.
Jude Tobin
Date: 2018-12-28 05:13 pm (UTC)Squad: 6
Squad Position: Second
Primary Weapon: Vintage hunting rifle (Winchester Model 1895 lever-action)
Combat Style: When an enemy is encountered, the first thing Jude does is withdraw and look for a vantage point. He's a sniper at his core, and prefers to observe the action from a distance. He's solidly focused on defense, and watches for Shadows that might be sneaking up on or otherwise threatening his teammates. He's distant and calculating, and remains exceptionally calm and level in a fight. Jude sees his job as a protective one, taking shots to clear the way for the rest of the squad. The downside is that Jude is so focused on the safety of his teammates that he rarely watches his own back. He often assumes he's safe because he doesn't enter the fray, but a clever shadow could sneak up on him with relative ease.
Attribute: Balance
Persona Name: Ariel
Persona Appearance: Ariel is a lean, feminine figure dressed in the exaggerated garb of a musketeer and her navy blue uniform is embroidered with a motif of rampant lions. She's covered in a fine dusting of frost, as though she were just in a snow storm. Between her large, feathered hat and the tattered scarf and bandages wrapped around her face, only her eyes are visible. Her eyes are so blue they seem to glow, and even her eyelashes are frozen and icy. Her skin is pale and frostbitten, with visible blue veins. Long black curly hair spills out from under her hat. Compared to some other Personas, Ariel's not very tall, standing at a modest 7'.
Ariel's footsteps leave frost and ice in their wake, and swirls of snow kick up around her when she runs or lunges. She's armed with a rifle just like Jude, except hers looks much older. Ariel moves with grace and poise, saluting the enemy at the beginning of battle, and bowing deeply to Jude and his teammates once it's over. (References)

Blake Hasenkamp
Date: 2018-12-28 05:24 pm (UTC)SQUAD: 6
SQUAD POSITION: Support
PRIMARY WEAPON: N/A
COMBAT STYLE:
Now that Blake is part of a team, she's conscious of needing to be more supportive presence, and her efforts there usually come off awkward. But she tries. Sometimes. She dislikes taking risks, and will advise her squad to take the more cautious route, or to hold back for reinforcements. Blake will always prioritize keeping her squad safe above everything else, but she also hates conflict, and will usually defer to the chain of command in a disagreement.
Blake is never the fastest Support when it comes to detecting anomalies, but Umabel's method of interpreting battle information (see below) means that Blake can keep an eye on a lot of elements at once without having to expend too much concentration.
ATTRIBUTE: Stamina
PERSONA NAME: Umabel (Angel of Friendship)
PERSONA APPEARANCE:
Blake seats herself on the opposite side of the board, and Umabel carves chunks of clay out of herself with her hands, placing them on the board. These pieces can represent humans, Shadows or obstacles. Familiar items (e.g. Blake's squad members) will be rendered in detail when they come on the board, while unfamiliar items (e.g. Shadows) will look more amorphous. To get more information, Blake needs to mold the pieces with her hands, while Umabel uses her many hands to place clay and mold the environment around where Blake is working. Umabel will also sometimes hand her carving tools, like a nurse attending a surgeon. When trying to detect rifts or scan a particular object, the board can spin like a pottery wheel, and Blake will focus herself by shaping a single clay object.
"Finished" pieces will move on the board of their own volition, like a living clay animation, and when enemies are eliminated, Umabel will take the piece and "return" it to her body. The "game board" ends up being a constantly changing and shifting piece of art, with three sets of hands manipulating clay objects to represent the field.
AFFINITY: Thunder
WEAKNESS: Fire
AILMENT SUSCEPTIBILITY: Fear
Justice Bishop
Date: 2018-12-28 09:52 pm (UTC)Squad: Six
Squad Position: Leader
Primary Weapon: Ice axe.
Combat Style: Justice relies primarily on her magical strength for combat, but has a bad habit of ending up in the thick of things for someone so lightweight. She can be surprisingly vicious with her ice axe, and will absolutely stab at enemies in range, but all the heavy hits come from her persona. Intuitive and self-assured, Justice has always been exceptionally in tune with Yelahiah, and casting has long been second nature to her.
That intuition is a big part of her combat style in general; she prefers staying flexible and thinking on her toes to drawn-out tactical plans that could go awry. If something feels right to her, she'll do it, and she finds her gut feelings very rarely steer her wrong. She's not an overthinker, and exploring the Shadow World doesn't cause her much anxiety. She's good, her squad's good, they have nothing to worry about.
As a leader, she is overbearing when it comes to squad business and hands-off when it comes to her teammates' personal lives. If it's not impacting training, it's not her problem. She doesn't require bonding or friendship from her squad, only cooperation - with each other, and most of all with her. She doesn't handle insubordination kindly, and can become inflexible if her choices or judgement are questioned.
Attribute: Strength (Magical)
Persona Name: Yelahiah, guardian angel of warriors.
Persona Appearance: At first, Yelahiah appears to be a large white stag made of brilliant light. On four legs, they are nimble and quick, capable of prancing in and out of melee and performing physical attacks with their horns. But when Justice uses her magical abilities, Yelahiah stands up on their back legs to reveal a second face - a woman-like figure dressed in gauzey white robes, suspended in the skeletal ribcage of the stag. Monet Romilly
Date: 2019-01-14 12:42 am (UTC)Squad: 9
Squad Position: Second
Primary Weapon: Aluminum Crossbow
Combat Style: Monet is a ruthlessly efficient presence on the battlefield. She isn't as strong or athletic as some of her peers, but she's a quick, instinctive strategist, a vicious sniper, and tireless as a zombie. She hangs on the edges of the fight, preferring not to get her hands dirty if she can help it, but the lightness of her weapon means the ability to sneak and maneuver rather quickly even across long distances, often popping up in unexpected places to better support her team.
The element of surprise is useful and something Monet relies on often. Yes, she occasionally can't help sniping kills, but her shots are more often tactical in nature, such as using arrows to strategically blind, wound or pin Shadows, or aggressively rapid fire "herding" them into position to be dispatched by someone else. When raw power is needed, Monet relies on Habuhiah's water magic, which she directs specifically to drown and smother.
As a Second, Monet is fairly no nonsense and generally appreciates Pansy's approach to leadership (roles are important and you need to do what you're told), though she sometimes feels the need to assert her own logic and ideas just so that people remember she has them. Despite this, she has also been known to change her end of a plan in motion without warning, so long as an objective is still met.
Monet advocates for strategies that are quick, total, and decisive, even if they may put some people in danger. The scale of what Finchwood is involved in is beyond human suffering in her mind, and as long as a goal is achieved it doesn't matter how. Though she tries to minimize damage if possible, because her peers have signed contracts she believes they've consented to life-threatening maneuvers when necessary. No qualms. Just... survive.
Attribute: Stamina
Persona Name: Habuhiah, Angel of Healing [visuals]
Persona Appearance: Habuhiah is a massive, stoic figure reminiscent of a medieval Plague Doctor. A long-nosed mask obscures his lack of facial features (Monet's checked; there's nothing under there), and his oversized body and limbs are draped in a rough black hood and cloak that drips, completely soaked, with freezing water. This Persona trudges along behind Monet and the squad when summoned, giving off the stench of herbs. He occasionally leans in close to gaze at them appraisingly or wave his "hands" (a charitable description of such twisted appendages) in healing motions over their bodies. When Habuhiah attacks using magic, he melts spontaneously into a pulse of brackish water, the sudden, punishing wave of which steamrolls over offending Shadows. His mask and cloak lie abandoned on the ground until he can reform within them, recouping for another offensive.

Henry Arany
Date: 2019-01-16 02:57 am (UTC)Squad: 9
Squad Position: Support
Primary Weapon: N/A
Combat Style: While Henry has well-balanced attributes as a Support and uncanny intuition about the nature of Shadows, he also has a lack of confidence in his abilities that sometimes makes him a lackluster Support. He tries his hardest during exploration, but often holds onto emerging readings for too long or otherwise undermines himself to the detriment of his team. He performs much better during training than he does in the field because his nerves tend to get the better of him. Still, he follows orders reliably and wants do be a team player. If only he knew how...
Attribute: Balance
Persona Name: Hariel
Persona Appearance: Hariel is an unnaturally tall, unnaturally slim Persona with a body made of metal and orange-yellow glass that seems to emanate light. The middle of its body is composed of metal barring and thin wires, forming an Aeolian wind harp through which wind passes and creates haunting music. The information that Hariel communicates to Henry is entirely auditory and is not made of words, but only the sounds created by the wind. For this reason, Henry closes his eyes and listens, allowing the music to conjure images and convey knowledge directly to him. Other Supports can glean very little meaning from this.
When Hariel is using its abilities, a sphere of light forms around it and Henry. This sphere is warm but not hot and glows brightly, but doesn't actually seem to offer any protection. Wind is also constantly moving around the pair and Henry never leaves training or exploration with tidy hair.

Eva Crawford
Date: 2019-01-26 03:17 am (UTC)Squad: 3
Squad Position: Member / Medium
Primary Weapon: Boomerang
Combat Style: Eva is agile, and that's what makes her useful. A lifelong dancer, Eva knows how to move her body, reserve her energy for later, and how to anticipate others based on their body language. She prides herself on being a team player, preferring to support others and play backup when they have a wild plan. While not much of an ideas man, Eva thinks of herself as a versatile member of the team — especially since her weapon can be used both long-range and melee as just a blunt instrument, so whatever any of you need, she's there for you.
Attribute: Balance
Persona Name: Poyel
Persona Appearance: Poyel looks like someone’s last minute art project. A stumpy, clunky pile of stones in the vague shape of a person, Poyel stomps around with an utter lack of grace, swaying dangerously, ready to topple over at any minute. The details on Poyel’s face and body are formed by cracks and wrinkles in the stone, this one looking like a crumpled brow and this jagged bump forming a nose. Some people might find his blunt, nearly featureless face off-putting, not knowing where to look if and when they need to, but they’ll want that blank slate right the hell back when he smiles.
Because Poyel does have a mouth, a horizontal crack in the rock that normally remains closed until there’s a reason to open it and reveal two rows of straight white teeth and no lips. No one ever wants to see a rock with teeth, and Eva considers it to be his hidden special attack.

Roland Messer
Date: 2019-01-31 05:23 am (UTC)Squad: Six
Squad Position: Medium
Primary Weapon: Greataxe
Combat Style:
Not to get too heavy handed with the Empress imagery, but if the battlefield is a game of chess, then Roland is your queen piece. Big and intimidating, he goes exactly where he wants, unfettered by the chaos around him. He is not fast, but he is single-minded and methodical in his pursuit of a goal in combat. And, boy oh boy, when he brings that axe down, there's not much that can stop that blade on its way to the floor.
So, he puts himself right into the thick of things and makes his presence a problem for everything around him. He's not a strategizer, and he does his best to put his ego aside and listen to orders from his squad leaders, but he is prone to bouts of inspiration. And if he sees a decisive action that might turn the tide of battle in his squad's favor, even if it endangers him, he'll take it. He's not a maniac, though. Roland will never endanger the rest of the squad if he can help it. On the contrary, given his size and strength, he's as like to put himself between a squadmate and a monster as he is to charge solo into the fray.
Attribute: Strength (Physical)
Persona Name: Yeiazel
Persona Appearance: Yeiazel manifests as a mass of vibrating shards of colored glass, swirling indistinct. But they don't stay formless for long. The jagged geometric shapes coalesce into a tall, lean masculine form - a very specific masculine form: that of Freddy Mercury in his iconic 1986 Wembley Stadium performance. White trousers with a red stripe, shirtless, draped in a flowing red velvet cape and wearing an opulent crown. The individual pieces that make up Yeiazel are constantly moving, glimmering iridescent, even when not catching light. The colors don't always match up 1:1 for the subject they're trying to emulate, but the slilhouette is always clear.
In this way, Yeiazel resembles a stained glass mosaic statue. But, really, he's more like an extremely intricate mobile. Whenever Yeiazel moves, the glass shards jangle like wind chimes. Armed with a microphone on a stand, the figure he cuts may be more strange or funny than intimidating, but once Yeiazel attacks, that red cape splits apart and reassembles itself into a set of six massive seraphic wings that rumble like thunder as they unfold. All together, the angel of Divine Support is a cacophony of color and sound that cannot be ignored.

Date: 2019-02-02 12:57 am (UTC)WILDCARDS: Suzy
Date: 2019-02-02 05:28 pm (UTC)Persona Name: Chamuel.
Persona Appearance:
A prehistoric nightmare of a tiger. Chamuel is immense and well-muscled, bigger than a horse, with the oversized canines of a sabertooth and a furious roar that is disturbing on a primal level. As if forever out in the cold, his breath comes out in foggy bursts and his fur is laced with frost and crystals of ice. Between his shining yellow eyes is a golden emblem in the shape of a starry snowflake.
When not engaged with Shadows, Chamuel lounges. He likes to bop his gargantuan head against Suzy for attention, like an oversized tabby, and will put bared fangs between her and a potential threat. The tiger's magic manifests as slow-creeping frost that radiates from his claw-points, and a fascinating (yet intimidating) ability to freeze things solid with his stare.

Arcana: The Moon.
Persona Name: Ophaniel.
Persona Appearance:
A drifting astronaut with a broken helmet, visor caved in and skull grinning out. Ophaniel floats untethered, feet never touching the ground, surrounded by a field of glass shards that glimmer in available light. They give off the impression of being.... well, dead. Or close to dead. In fact, they often appear to have little to no control over the direction of their movements, as though truly lost in space: bouncing off the environment, slowly turning in circles in the squad's periphery, etc. Suzy is the center of a meandering orbit. If urgency is required, Ophaniel seems to simply reappear where needed, but even that has the floating, dance-like quality of a space walk.
When attacking, magic sparks like a mis-wire or short-out from somewhere in their suit. Lightning shoots from glass shard to glass shard around them, forming branching, beautiful displays.
This persona is mostly nonreactive, but occasionally crackles with static and garbled voices, like someone trying to make contact over a fuzzy radio.

Arcana: The Emperor.
Persona Name: Hamal.
Persona Appearance:
A drowned king in ragged finery and crown, fused atop a bony, long-fanged Kelpie. River weeds entwine in hair and around limbs, with dark water forever rolling around their hooves, splashing as the horse-shaped creature moves (not exactly like a horse; in subtle and hard to describe ways, a bit more like a giant predator).
When Suzy directs an attack, the water grows troubled below Hamal's hooves, swelling in waves and lashing out with force. The king directs the kelpie around the battlefield with an authoritative point, and their horse head complies by biting and tearing at Shadows with relish.
Despite an unsettling appearance and apparent enjoyment in killing things, Hamal has a playful attitude toward both Suzy and her squadmates. The king occasionally removes his crown in salute to them, and the kelpie is capable of a kind of panting, doggy smile, greasy black tongue lolling out of its wolfish mouth.

Arcana: The Devil.
Persona Name: Zephon.
Persona Appearance:
A sorrowful girl in antiquated mourning garb. Zephon has the appearance of an animated painting: rich colors, rich darks, a smooth, angelic face glistening with tears. She walks at a stately clip, clutching a flower in one of her hands. Occasionally she can be heard making a sound that resembles sobbing.
When Zephon attacks using earth magic, she flings her flower down like a gauntlet before the desired Shadow, which is viciously choked by the vines and thorns that spring from it like a snapping trap. Her crocodile tears turn to smiling laughter, and her face twists into a distorted sneer.
This persona generally doesn't seem to notice or care about other humans, but when Suzy dismisses her she likes to offer a pretty bloom in farewell. If taken, it crumbles to ash that smells of sulfur.

WILDCARDS: Zinnia
Date: 2019-02-03 01:28 am (UTC)Persona Name: Suriel, benevolent angel of death
Persona Appearance: Suriel was once probably a handsome young man, dressed all in black. Something about him feels kind and charming, maybe even a bit impish. Underneath a massive hooded cloak he wears a couture suit and deep black furs, which barely hide the fact that Suriel is completely skeletonized. A breeze continuously ruffles his cloak, the hem of which dissolves into smoke. The edges of Suriel are whispy and vague, but looking into his dead face is intense and unnaturally crisp. He doesn't speak, but sometimes chuckles good naturedly in the middle of battle.
Suriel has no weapon, but in each gloved hand he holds the leather leash of a massive dog. Two German shepherds, one jet black, one bone white. They bark excitedly, wagging their tails and pulling on the leashes. They're eager to fight, and when Suriel attacks, he releases them. The dogs dissolve into smoke, which lashes out to strike the enemy. At the end of a successful battle, the dogs jump around excitedly, and Suriel seems to struggle to calm them down. Yes, you can pet them. (References.)

Persona Appearance: Yeehah appears in the form of a mythical gorgon. She has hair made out of snakes and a human torso (clothed in silver armor that resembles scales,) and a long, long green tail that she rises up on to attack. While her head is ostensibly shaped like a human's, her eyes are yellow and reptilian. All of the snakes in her hair spit out stone when she attacks with it. She stands behind Pearl ferocious but aloof, different from Rochel, who gets closer and seems to merge with Pearl. There's always the faint sound of hissing emanating from around her.

WILDCARDS: Noah
Date: 2019-02-03 06:07 pm (UTC)Persona Name: Jophiel (Angel of Beauty and Wisdom)
Persona Appearance: Jophiel looks like a mythological harpy, but where her torso should be, there's a hourglass-shaped copper birdcage. Her coloration evokes a masked lovebird: her face, breast and long curly hair are sunshine yellow, while her wings and feathered bird legs are various shades of green. She wears a helmet that covers the upper half of her face, black with a red beak and white almond-shaped eyes. Jophiel has two sets of wings: one set sprouting from her back, and another set sprouting from where human arms would be. Inside her birdcage torso is a glowing red heart, that flutters around inside her "chest" like a trapped bird. Despite having legs, she always floats above the ground, her hair flowing around her like it's always caught in a breeze. Every time Noah attacks or casts magic, Jophiel's wings spread wide, and the heart in her cage finally stops flying around, growing bigger and brighter for a couple of seconds.

Persona Name: Micah (Angel of Unity)
Persona Appearance: Micah has the appearance of a 12' tall man slowly turning into crystalline glass. The left side of his body is hard and immobile, his skin turned to shiny facets that show white bones and bright red veins underneath. Clear crystals have spread from his skin to cover half of his clothing, a royal blue velvet cassock, the colour still visible underneath the stone. Micah's long straight hair is black except for a single lock that's turned crystalline white, while his face has entirely converted to glass, showing only the remnants of a skull and red veins inside. In his right hand (still pliable flesh, in a black glove), Micah holds a large book bound in red leather, filled with strange images, like out of a medieval illuminated manuscript. Whenever Noah casts magic, the book floats above Micah's hand, open towards the target, and the pages cycle rapidly like a flipbook, so the painted illustrations look like they're moving.

Ashton Norris Jr.
Date: 2019-02-06 07:32 pm (UTC)Squad: 6
Squad Position: Member
Primary Weapon: Bolas
Combat Style: Highly dependent on the people he's fighting with. Junior performs best with those he knows well, and is most successful when he's able to deliberately think about, and play off of, his squad's strengths. Because he never second-guesses orders, he's most useful to a strong leader with clear, thoughtful plans; someone reckless, who needs their team to act as a "checkpoint," will get a dangerous yes-man in Junior.
Nimble and dextrous, he tends to hover on the edges of a fight until an opening emerges, at which point, he'll jump in and make a precision strike. His bolas, when wielded correctly, almost act like a third hand — allowing him to tie and grab and pull from a distance — and his favourite move is to yank his opponent's weapon out of their hands. He also likes to trip enemies, AT-AT style.
For someone who often comes across as a giant dingus, Junior is actually a relatively quick thinker in the heat of battle and, if left alone, can come up with creative solutions to difficult problems. Unfortunately, he can sometimes distract himself by trying to anticipate what his teammates want him to do, rather than what he should be doing. Sometimes, this means that he's perfectly and seemingly-intuitively in the right position, able to preempt his leadership's orders... but other times, he guesses wrong and is exactly in the way. This trick is not unhelpful in itself, and when he pulls it off, it's an incredible boon. It's just that, when he doesn't, it's likely exasperating.
Attribute: Speed
Persona Name: Yehuiah
Persona Appearance: You'd be forgiven for thinking missing Yehuiah on the battle field; at first glance, the angel of subordination really does look like nothing more than a small pile of sand — about three feet in diameter and 4-5 inches high. On closer inspection, however, and in the right light, it becomes clear that those little gravity-defying wisps at the apex are where sand fuses into glass.
Indeed, in reality, Yehuiah is a giant humanoid creature with a tendency to stand immediately behind Junior, wherever he goes. His otherworldly crystal-glass body isn't translucent at all; instead, it merely approximates invisibility by reflecting its surroundings... more or less. Say you're standing in an open field. If you look in Yehuiah's direction, you'll likely see whatever it is that's directly in front of him. Or, you may see something close — same flowers, same shrubs, but there's a little rabbit rubbing through his frame that definitely isn't there in the physical space.
Mostly, his mirror act stays very, very close, although there are two exceptions: In the midst of a battle, Yehuiah may reflect something completely unrelated and when Junior stands in front of him, he doesn't reflect anything at all.

WILDCARDS: CECILIA
Date: 2019-02-17 09:00 pm (UTC)Persona Name: Marmaroth, angel who thwarts fate
Persona Appearance: At a quick glance, Marmaroth has a more humanoid appearance than most Persona. Roughly, she's an eight and a half foot tall woman in a simple, floor-length maroon dress. Her outline is blurry and seems to expand and retreat, sometimes jutting out suddenly before reforming. If you listen closely, she gives off a soft crackling sound, like static. Her movements are jerky and unbelievably fast. Cecilia is unsure whether Marmaroth has multiple sets of arms and legs or if they just move so quickly that it seems so.
See, the thing is Marmaroth does not appear to be contained within a single timeline. At once an ancient woman, a young girl, and every age between, all superimposed upon one another. Each version of Marmaroth flickers in and out of existence so quickly that it's difficult to make out any discernible appearance at all. She's unsettling to look upon and Cecilia is uneasy around her.

Persona Appearance: Diminutive for a persona at hardly six feet tall, Johiel takes the shape of a dryad hewn from vines. Her petticoats are made of brightly coloured tropical leaves and her fairylike wings have petals in place of feathers. Though the rest of her form suggests a female appearance, her face is entirely featureless. The tightly coiled vines that make up the rest of her body form a geometric cage in place of a head. Trapped inside is a miniature sun.
As Johiel exerts herself in battle, be it through flowery magic or vine whip physical attacks, the fire trapped in her head begins to set her alight from the inside. When Rose dismisses Johiel, she burns up entirely.

Persona Name: Ambriel, angel of communications
Persona Appearance: A robe-clad figure with the sweet, inquisitive face of a gecko lizard, Ambriel does not look particularly intimidating at first glance. It holds a lantern on a crook, and the light of the flickering flame occasionally produces shadow puppets on nearby surfaces.
In battle, however, Ambriel is a vicious foe. Quick and erratic, it goes berserk as soon as it encounters Shadows. Ambriel will bludgeon nearby enemies with indiscriminate and haphazard blows of its lantern, sometimes leaving them aflame.

Persona Name: Shalgiel, Angel of Snow
Persona Appearance: Shalgiel is a stack of toads and frogs, each smaller than the last and made of snow or ice. Like snowflakes, each is individual and unique, different every time Rose summons this persona. Some carry swords or shields, some wear tiny wizard hats, and some just look confused to be there.
Versatile in combat, its strengths depend on the composition of the tower. More frog warriors mean it tends to use more physical attacks; frogs with wands and spellbooks encourage magical ones. While the stack is capable of moving, it is not particularly agile. When Rose dismisses Shalgiel, the tower topples over and vanishes in individual flurries of snow.

Date: 2019-04-03 03:30 pm (UTC)Squad: Squad 9
Squad Position: Member
Primary Weapon: Longbow
Combat Style: Tate is calculated when he fights - he wants to make sure he's maximizing his usefulness, he wants to make sure he's being tactical, he wants to make sure that his shots will land. He's good at thinking on his feet, and decently good at listening to instructions... but when not in the midst of battle, Tate is easily distracted by the strangeness of the Shadow World. Is that a hole he can peer into? Is that some weird object he can pick up? His natural curiosity can lead him astray, and while he probably won't entirely wander off, don't expect him to not accidentally hold up the group sometimes by looking at some curious plant or weird object that's caught his eye. Occasionally this means he'll find something useful. But most of the time this just means you need to snap your fingers at him to get his attention.

Persona Name: Veuliah
Persona Appearance: Veuliah, in a vacuum, appears as a vaguely humanoid, origami-esque figure made of waterlogged book pages. The letters are all bleeding beyond recognition, and a steady stream of water pours from its hands and down its body, as though it's standing under a waterfall. It's not an aggressive stream, though, and a few inches from its body the water disappears into nothingness. But Veuliah is a Persona that isn't static - it adapts to its surroundings, pulling not only from other Personas around it, but the environment in general. It may maintain a humanoid shape, or it may take on a more animalistic form, but it consistently has this water pouring off of it, and is consistently made of water-warped book pages. As the year has gone on, others might notice that Veuliah has a few more consistent features that seem to be adapted from people Tate is close to, or their Personas.

Donovan McMorrow
Date: 2019-04-06 08:37 am (UTC)Squad: 6
Squad Position: Member
Primary Weapon: Tiger Hook Swords
Combat Style: Donovan isn't tough and, even after all of his training and experience, once he goes down he tends to stay there. Because of this, he relies heavily on his speed to get in, deliver attacks quickly, and get out. He also takes advantage of his weapons, often hooking his swords together to gain more range or using the to disarm opponents. While he has decent tactical skills, he prefers to take his cues from Blake, Justice, or Jude.
It does bother him at times to be the weakest member of the squad, but he knows he's come a long way and fighting isn't really his thing anyway, so he can live with it.
Attribute: Speed
Persona Name: Imamiah
Persona Appearance: Imamiah is a large anthropomorphic crow with three legs, resembling a mythological creature known as a samjogo. The Persona has a prominent mane of fluffy black feathers and shining gold jewelry adorns each of its three legs, its taloned toes, and its body, giving it a regal but undeniably bizarre look. Opening its large black beak reveals not only a number of unexpected (and very sharp) teeth but also an outpouring of hot steam. This is because when Imamiah casts fire magic, it breathes the flames out like a dragon.
When not in combat, this Persona flies in large circles overhead and can be heard constantly speaking in a low, indecipherable language.

Glenn Turnbull
Date: 2019-04-07 09:42 pm (UTC)Squad: One
Squad Position: Member - Low
Primary Weapon: Sword & shield
Combat Style: For someone who's so reserved and calculated in his personal life, Glenn is a blunt force weapon on the battle field. His tactics failing to evolve past "see Shadow, hit with sword" caused him to lag behind in training initially, but working with Scout and the rest of Squad One has tempered him and helped him grow. Still, his approach is direct. His impulse is always to be the first to engage in battle, and although deferring to Scout means that he very rarely gets to be first in the turn order, he's reckless in a way that his leader isn't. He doesn't mean to disobey orders, but if he sees opportunities, he has a hard time not taking them - even if it'll put him in danger or throw a wrench in Scout's plans.
When he's not pulling a Leeroy Jenkins, he's a good addition to the team. He'd be a better defensive fighter than an offensive one if he committed himself to it. His self-sacrificing nature means he's happy to put himself and his shield between a Shadow and a teammate, and Vasariah is capable of creating Physical Barriers, a skill he's known about for awhile but is only just coming to employ in combat. He was a slow learner when it came to summoning and getting a hold on his persona's abilities last year, and still tends to rely on himself more than his magical abilities.
Attribute: Strength
Persona Name: Vasariah, angel of clemency
Persona Appearance: Vasariah takes the form of a haloed, feminine standard-bearer, evocative of a sainted Joan of Arc. She looks like a large, three dimensional piece of embroidery which is loose or fraying. Her appearance becomes clearly and tightly-stitched when Glenn focuses on her or using her abilities, but the majority of the time she looks a mess.
Her sword, halo, and flag appear to be rendered in quicksilver instead of thread. Her flag bears the heraldry of the Scottish clan Turnbull.

Yvette Barton
Date: 2019-04-09 02:05 am (UTC)Squad: 1
Squad Position: Medium
Primary Weapon: Duel wielded daggers.
Combat Style: Yvette's best asset is her speed. She's quick on her feet, and can leap unusually long distances, roll, and dodge. Crevasses don't give her much pause, and she delights in running circles or sliding under larger, slower Shadows. Her technique is to get in and get out, running at the enemy for a quick, powerful slash and then disengaging as quickly as possible. If she can angle herself to stab a Shadow from behind, all the better. Hakamiah supports her with augmented Speed, and at her best she's untouchable. However, if she's forced to directly fight a stronger Shadow, Yvie's unlikely to match it in power.
With Scout and Glenn there to protect her and directly engage the enemy, and Ces to cover long-distance engagement, Yvie's able to work her way around the battlefield and remain maneuverable. Wielding her knives, she's graceful and precise, but a very short distance. She has to stay in the midst of things and stay on her toes. While she can work just fine without direction, her ears are always listening for Scout or Ces' orders.
Attribute: Speed
Persona Name: Hakamiah
Persona Appearance: A roiling storm cloud that hangs over Yvette at all times, Hakamiah is never at ease. Even when resting, she makes a yowling, whining sound, which blends in with the distant rumble of thunder. Sometimes, she'll flash from within, though no actual lightning is visible.
During battle, shapes can be made out in Hakamiah, and dozens of stormy cats can be seen trying to escape the cloud. Their tails are tied together in the middle, like a horrifying rat king made out of hissing and spitting cats. Hakamiah is fast, and flies behind Yvette like a set of stormy wings. When she speeds up, paws look like long feathers boosting her across the room. If Hakamiah attacks, the cats are suddenly more like dogs, howling and barking so horribly that even allies might be inclined to wince.
Yvie feels... bad for Hakamiah, who always seems to be in a little bit of pain. Even when she looks like a writing mass of cats, she feels compelled to soothe it during downtime.

Portia Frank
Date: 2019-05-02 07:08 pm (UTC)Squad: 7
Squad Position: Member [Medium].
Primary Weapon: Combat knife.
Combat Style: A bottomless well of crackling, scrappy energy, Portia has blossomed under Lee's encouragement in training and battle... but it would still frankly (ha) be an understatement to say she lacks refinement.
As a squad member, she brings a somewhat manic, gremlin-like energy to the field: effective and thorough destruction under the right direction, like a toy slasher you can wind up and release, but a touch chaotic when left to her own devices. She's hackin and whackin and smackin (and occasionally just, like, fuckin' throwing her knife at stuff). It's not hard to knock her down, but she'll pop up swinging. Years of Girl's Wrestling has given her some fierce chokeholds, and she knows how to throw her weight around. Portia may not always be 100% sure what the objective is, but let's get it done!
...She doesn't wanna die, though. Her tiny berserker act is incomplete. Though it wouldn't be totally out of the question to group her with some of the more reckless and borderline suicidal of Finchwood's finest, the source of her power comes not from an urge to self-destruct, but to survive. She's willing to do almost anything to succeed, even if it means a touch of pain here and there. (Iason is really good at healing flesh wounds!!!)
Portia looks up to her squad members and considers them icons of maturity and coolness.
Attribute: Stamina.
Persona Name: Damabiah.
Persona Appearance:
Damabiah is the calm to Portia's chaos in battle.
She's a being reminiscent of those classic biblical seraphim, aberrations who felt it necessary to forewarn those they appeared before: Be Not Afraid. A divine yet monstrous glitch, Damabiah appears as a weird, writhing mess of porcelain arms and many-jointed legs and churning wings and color-changing feathers. Her face is kaleidoscopic when unobscured. She is part bird and part human, with the hazy, hard-to-discern quality of a distant and uncomfortable mirage.
While Damabiah is difficult and disorienting to look at, she is worth studying. Once in a while her features settle, revealing a pair of deep, doe-like eyes, and a soft, somewhat apologetic smile.
When she attacks, her (10? 20? 100?) wings beat the air in a coordinated strike, pulsing with energy and intent. The sound is indescribable but immense.
